We often hear the term, “radiation emergency medicine.”What
kind of medical care is this?
Radiation emergency medicine is comprehensive medical care
that is given to relieve symptoms and to save lives when people
are exposed to a high dose of radiation due to an unexpected
accident or other causes. One recent famous incident is the
1999 criticality accident at JCO’s nuclear-fuel processing
plant in Tokaimura, Japan. In addition to this, there have
been a number of reports on radiation exposure accidents in
the world due to such reasons as lost radioactive materials
for nondestructive tests.
